ART FAIRS
Whole Earth Festival late 1980s
I have been showing my photography at outdoor art festivals since 1987, except for a 7 year hiatus when we moved to Utah. Above I am showing at the Davis Whole Earth Festival in about 1990. All of the prints were hand-printed silver gelatin darkroom prints from 4x5” negatives. I still make darkroom prints by hand, and other types of prints, using even larger cameras and film.
Art festivals are a wonderful way to get your work in front of large numbers of regular people, and their reactions are genuine and often intriguing. The vast majority of my collectors have been people enjoying an art festival, and they acquire a piece to hang on their walls.
